Floating Island: The Idea
In March 1998, after passing the successful simulation of the first prototype, Abdullah Daou wrote at the cover page of the first brochure of a Floating Island, the following words:
“In the summer of 1982, while recruiting in the Arab gulf water, the idea glittered as an inconceivable fantasy.
Today, after 15 years of personal devotion in silent research, and 13 months of practical application, all enhanced only by deep trust in God and the moral encouragement of faithful friends, the floating island Dhow 4 is a fact.
At the landmarks of history, the shadows of our far ancestors overview where we stand today with deep silence. I hope this achievement accredits our association for the good of mankind.”
Dr. Daou checked the economic revenues and the results were surprising, showing an IRR over 25%.
This is an industry with no present competition, producing a unique and unprecedented commodity which would form a large potential market for raw materials and components manufacturers worldwide.
In 2009 fabrication of the first floating island began.
Dhow 4 Engineering Characteristics:
• Dhow4 Engineering eliminates capsizing of Floating Structures because the Center of Gravity is controlled below the Center of Buoyancy. Additionally Rolling & Pitching are dimmed for human comfort.
• Dhow4 Engineering builds small or giant catamarans and MultiHullships withmuch better stability, shallow keels, higher speed, less fuel consumption, better manoeuvrability and lesser risk of sinking. A prototype was launched in the Red sea in 2005 and proved fully successful. This Catamaran is a real prototype of an oceaner ship that can be built of Steel & Fiberglass.
• Dhow4 Engineering builds fiberglass houses; a 100 sq.mvilla with 11mx4m terraces made entirely from a Fiberglass Sandwich, was built within one working day in 2007.These villas would provide a radical solution forhousing projects all over the world. This GRP Villa has technical characteristics exceeding the international norms for housing.
• Products of the Dhow 4 Engineering conform successfully to the international marine codes such as IMO, FTP, SOLAS, MARPOLand internationally applied environmental regulations, all at highly profitable financial feasibility.
